THREE RIVERS, NEW MEXICO PETROGLYPHS
https://www.blm.gov/visit/three-rivers-petroglyph-site

The Three Rivers Petroglyphs are outstanding examples of prehistoric Jornada Mogollon rock art. The basaltic ridge rising above the Three Rivers Valley contains over 21,000 petroglyphs, including masks, sunbursts, wildlife, handprints, and geometric designs. The number and concentration of petroglyphs make this one of the largest and most interesting rock art sites in the Southwest.

The Saddle Rock Ranch Pictograph Site, also known as the “Cave of the Four Horsemen,” is a Native American rock art and settlement site located in the Santa Monica Mountains of California. The site is located at the base of two impressive natural landmarks, Mitten Rock and Saddle Rock, which rises three-quarters of a mile to the west. These peaks served as landmarks for prehistoric travelers and early historic explorers.

Travel time, about 1 hour. A stretch of roadway going through the mountains will be partially paved, but the paving is quite deteriorated. As you approach the cindercone mining area, the trail to the petroglyphs is to the right. Last time, it was posted “No Vehicle Travel”. After a short walk, you will see the parking area and the entrance to the petroglyph viewing area.
